The Journey to YogaStine
I have spent most of the adult portion of my now 50 years as a student of this practice. What it has taught me is that no matter how long you do it or how great a physical shape you are in, you will always be a student of Yoga...
I began teaching while living overseas, courtesy of the US military, because as a military spouse traveling the world there was not a lot of access to yoga or yoga classes. I had memorized the yoga dvd's in my collection so well I figured I could pretty well just recite them and teach others what I was practicing. I later found a Yoga Fit course in Germany and enrolled in training Levels I-III to become officially certified to teach. Over the years I continued to take Yoga trainings with various master trainers when they became available, in whatever country I was stationed in at the time, in order to gain more knowledge. When I moved to Japan I met a girl teaching on the military base. She told me about a yoga ashram where she achieved her certification and encouraged me to go.
Not too long after my vehicle was hit by semi-truck in an accident that left me with a broken neck and several other injuries. When I began to recover I was told by my neuro and orthopedic surgeons that I would have to give up "the yoga"... I told them they were wrong and stubborn that I am, didn't listen. Instead I sought a stronger, deeper more spiritual practice ...I wanted to get control over my healing and a greater understanding of how the body works. I remembered the ashram and decided to seek some healing and solace as was determined to DEEPEN my practice! I contacted the wonderful people at the Konalani Ashram in Hawaii and told them my situation with a request to be accepted into their training. That experience only served to validate everything I had always believed and to help me not only to heal but to release the anger I felt as a result of the accident and my body's inability to return to what I perceived as normal. I never looked back...
"The Yoga" saved my life... in more ways than one. After completing the 200 hour training I spent the next few years achieving upper level education, and immersing myself in A&P, Kinesiology and Therapy courses. I completed my 500 hour certification and took the next steps to become a teacher trainer.
Today I am an E-RYT500 Yoga Therapist and Instructor Trainer with over 15,000 hours of experience in both teaching and teacher training. I hold continuing education workshops and teach all level Hatha and Power Vinyasa style classes, that are accessible to everybody and body type regardless of age, fitness level, or experience. My classes are taught progressively as a moving meditation to allow you to improve your internal sense of awareness and increase flexibility over time.
Yoga is a moving meditation;
asana class begins and ends with the breath. It is a true mind body connection. Creating a deeper focus and attention to the breath offers a more intense internal awareness and a connection to the automatic and systemic functions of the body. I teach with an emphasis on safety and a kinesiologic perspective of how the body moves. Motion takes place as a result of direct connection with the movement of the breath. Stamina, range of motion and mobility are increased only after safety and stability are achieved. Through the practice of Vinyasa the ultimate result is a meditative experience, an increased awareness of your stress triggers and ultimately, the ability to transform those triggers into opportunities to achieve of a deeper sense of ease and calm in your life off the mat.
I am always available to assist you and answer your questions and concerns.

*The name YogaStine® was a gift that began as a humorous precedent of the nickname my family and friends called me... somehow it caught on and stuck and has become not only my nickname but is now my trademark.

About the Yoga!
Increase mental clarity, improve strength, flexibility, and stamina, lower your heart rate, blood pressure and stress levels...
It is not necessary to be young, strong, flexible or to have experience.
Yoga is about more than the physical series of poses; it is about being open and accepting of yourself, without judgment. Yoga is a continual journey, and for me, a way of life. It helped me to heal after a serious physical injury and helped bring a sense of calm into an often chaotic military lifestyle.
Yoga can inspire you in ways you never thought possible. Let the connection between your mind, body and spirit guide you toward inner peace and a renewed sense of being.
I encourage you to take a class and explore the many benefits yoga can bring into your life...
I am both pleased and honored to be able to share the possibilities and help assist you in the journey that is yoga.
Feel free to ask questions, make requests, or leave comments; or just visit the Guestbook and say hello!
