Wounded Warrior & Adaptive Yoga Programs
Wounded Warrior and Adaptive Yoga classes are designed for students with a variety of needs who are looking for a safe place to experience the multiple benefits of yoga. These benefits include increased maintaining strength and increasing flexibility, greater sense of balance, and the ability to be present in themselves in the breath to achieve the optimum degree of healing in each experience whether in a yoga class or in the world.
The adaptive yoga classes are for warriors living with mobility disabilities, such as partial paralysis, amputation, spinal cord injury, stroke, multiple sclerosis onset, Parkinson's and post surgical situations. Classical yoga postures are adapted with the use of props and assistants to the needs of students living with a disability to deepen the body-mind awareness and to provide the experience of the pose, whatever the level of the participant. Deepening mind-body awareness can lead to a greater sense of freedom and ease in everyday activities for someone living with a disability. Here are some of the benefits that can result from an Adaptive Yoga practice: • Greater strength, balance and mobility on a physical and mental level • The ability to move through everyday life with more physical efficiency • Better management of chronic pain and repetitive strain injury caused by the use of a wheelchair, prosthetics or partial paralysis • Better management of stress, anxiety and depression.
